Denver to Moab and back, part 2

Resting up at the Inca Inn we were already to go visit Canyonlands and use my America The Beautiful pass again.

This is one of the few spots at Island in the Sky where you can actually see the river, the canyons are that deep!

I had seen this park one time from the air flying to Vegas and was struck by how the mountains of Colorado gave way to this otherworldly landscape. The canyons drop into layer after layer. I had wanted to view this from a closer perspective and today was the day.

Who knew?

Canyonlands National Park is the largest of the many national parks in Utah. We obviously would be doing a drive by sightsee of this magnificent park. Perhaps the expanse of this park is intimidating to many and that is why it is less popular than Arches. In my opinion if you could only do one I’d pick Canyonlands.

Our itinerary was to go to Island in the Sky.

Shock and awe at of the Island in the Sky at Canyonlands

We took the hike to the Grand View Point. Having seen the South Rim Grand Canyon I would say the view from Island in the Sky is more impressive. There are also many impressive drops on this hike so you might want to be careful as you’re taking your selfies.

After the hike we went to Dead Horse State Park. I did not see any Dead Horses and contrary to the video, I gave up shortly after it was taken because I was eggs-husted.

Back to the Inca to rest up. I got to telling Frenchie about my adventures in music back in the old days. You could hear her eyes roll back in her head having to rehear my youthful misadventures for the thousand’s time.

Met up with Jim S., and friend from back in our youth who now lives in Moab, later that evening in a local bar and grill. Had dinner and went back to visit his house and have another beer and catch up but I running out of steam and with more travels in the morning had to bid adieu. Two days is too short of time for a Moab visit. Try 4 or more if you plan on coming.

We went back the way we came. Again I highly recommend the 128 route in and out of Moab for red rock canyon viewing.

On our return to Glenwood Springs we again stayed at Hanging Lake Inn. The even gave us the same room. Upstairs again. Ugh!.

With some time on our hands we drove to to the Glenwood Canyon area and pulled off at a park alongside the Interstate and said hello to the our constant companion on this tour the Colorado River summing up it up….

Just another canyon video

That road above me is the one that is always getting wiped out in mudslides or closed because of fires.

That evening we dined at the Italian Underground. The reviews on this restaurant were good and the ambiance was nice. An old school basement Italian restaurant, what’s not to like? Well for one thing the spaghetti in meat sauce. It did not live up to the reviews or the ambiance. Just not enough bite to the sauce. Wasn’t gross or anything just kind of bland. Maybe not the dish for someone with a super spicy loving pallet as mine.

Back to the Inn and a good nights rest for the drive back to Denver to catch our flight home.

The morning came and we took our 3rd drive through Glenwood Canyon and through the mountains of Colorado stopping off to get coffee in Georgetown at Colorado T-Shirt and Espresso Store

Then to the airport and back home to Pedroville and back to our Dogs.

Worst ventriloquist ever?

Come back in May for the exciting adventures in Sedona Arizona.
